For the last few months, the government of India has been excessively emphasising on the need for positive birth rate index in the country. In this context, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu has made a very interesting offer to the people of the state and let us have a look into the same.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has announced a new incentive aimed at encouraging families to have more children in order to address the state’s declining birth rate.

Speaking in the Assembly, the Chief Minister said the government will provide financial assistance of Rs 25,000 to families at the time of delivery if they have a second or third child.

The proposal is part of a broader population policy being considered by the Andhra Pradesh government. Officials are concerned about the steady decline in the state’s Total Fertility Rate which currently stands at 1.5. This figure is well below the ideal replacement level of 2.1 required to maintain a stable population without long term demographic imbalance.

According to government data, nearly 58 percent of families in the state are choosing to have only one child. Experts warn that if the trend continues, it could lead to a shrinking working age population in the future. This could affect economic growth and create workforce shortages across various sectors.

The proposed scheme is expected to be discussed further before implementation as part of the state’s long term population strategy. More details are likely to emerge in the next few days.
