Though Chandragiri assembly constituency in Chittoor is TDP big boss Chandrababu Naidu’s original home turf, the TDP winning from this constituency has always been a pipedream. This time around, the TDP is making a strong bid to wrest Chandragiri from the YSRCP. It is now trying to field a strong candidate, who can defeat the YSRCP.

In fact, Chandrababu Naidu began his political foray from Chandragiri. He had contested from Chandragiri in 1978 and became a minister. In 1983, he had again contested from Chandragiri on a Congress ticket and lost to the Telugu Desam. Later, he shifted to Kuppam and has since been representing Kuppam. Since then, the Congress won for four consecutive terms from Chandragiri. Galla Aruna Kumari won from Chandragiri.

Even after the formation of a separate state, luck did not smile on the TDP. Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, a trusted Jagan lieutenant, has won consecutively in 2014 and 2019. This time around, his son Mohit Reddy is being fielded from Chandragiri and Chevireddy is working hard to ensure that Mohit wins the elections easily from there.

The TDP has two options in Chandragiri. As of now Pulivarthi Nani is the incharge of the constituency. He can be fielded as he has been building the party sleadily in Chandragiri. Dollar Damodar Reddy, a realtor with abiding interest in politics, is also being considered. Dollar was initially with the Praja Rajyam Party and then stayed neutral for several years, before joining the TDP. The TDP is yet to finalise its candidate from Chandragiri. Let’s wait and see if the TDP will create a history in Chandragiri this time.
