Beware: New Scam Targets Desperate Women in Bihar with False Pregnancy Promises
By: Tupaki Desk | 11 Jan 2025 6:04 AM GMTIn an alarming turn of events in Bihar, a deceptive scheme targeting childless women has been exposed, leading to the arrest of several individuals involved. This group promised women a significant financial reward, specifically Rs 10 lakh, for becoming pregnant. The scam, which unfolded in the Nawada district, preyed on the vulnerabilities of those yearning for children. Despite repeated police warnings about the diverse tactics employed by cybercriminals, from digital blackmail to investment frauds, this new scheme adds a disturbing dimension to the cybercrime landscape.
The perpetrators utilized social media to broadcast their fraudulent proposition, operating under the guise of "All India Pregnant Job Service" and "Playboy Service." Their advertisements seduced numerous women with the promise of substantial monetary compensation upon pregnancy, alongside a consolation payment ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakh in case of failure to conceive. This led many women, driven by the allure of the advertised benefits, to reach out to the gang, unaware of the deceit that lay ahead.
Upon contact, the gang would proceed to collect sensitive personal information from the victims, including PAN and Aadhaar cards, along with selfies and other details, under the pretext of registration and booking accommodations. Victims who hesitated to make payments were subjected to blackmail. The police's intervention came after several complaints were lodged, leading to a comprehensive investigation. The culprits, identified as Prince Raj, Bhola Kumar, and Rahul Kumar, were apprehended, and the police seized six cellphones in their possession. These devices contained evidence of the scam, including WhatsApp conversations with victims, customer photographs, audio recordings, and bank transaction records.
Cybercrime, with its constantly evolving tactics, remains a significant threat, as evidenced by this recent scam in Bihar. Despite the efforts of law enforcement to curb these activities, cybercriminals continue to find new ways to exploit individuals. The public is urged to remain vigilant and conduct thorough research before engaging with online services or advertisements. Additionally, it's crucial to heed the advice and warnings issued by the authorities regarding potential online frauds and scams.
