Because of this, many popular websites and apps such as X, Canva, ChatGPT, Spotify and several others stopped working for users around the world.
The problem started around 11 AM, when thousands of users began reporting that they were unable to access their favourite platforms. By 6 PM, outage-tracking website Downdetector recorded more than 7,000 complaints. Many people said they were getting error pages or the websites were simply not loading.
Cloudflare plays an important role in keeping websites fast, safe and online. It provides services like content delivery, security protection and DNS support. When Cloudflare faces a problem, several websites that depend on it also get affected. This is exactly what happened during the outage.
The company later confirmed that it was experiencing a critical issue, which led to “widespread 500 errors.” Even Cloudflare’s own Dashboard and API were facing problems making it harder for users and businesses to manage their websites. Cloudflare said it is working to fully understand the issue and fix it as quickly as possible.
Many high-traffic websites were affected, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Perplexity, Spotify, Gemini and X. Interestingly, even Downdetector, the site people use to check outages went down for some time because it also depends on Cloudflare.
After Downdetector came back online, it showed a sharp rise in reports for multiple major platforms.
