By: Tupaki Desk | 10 March 2026 8:33 PM ISTThe shortage of commercial gas supply has already resulted in several hotels across Mumbai and Bengaluru being shut down. The situation is reaching a new low point in Hyderabad due to the shortage in commercial gas.
A severe shortage of commercial LPG cylinders is pushing thousands of hotels and hostels in Hyderabad towards a possible shutdown, raising concerns across the city’s food and hospitality sector.
According to hotel associations, nearly 74,000 hotels and eateries in Hyderabad currently have gas supplies that may last only for the day. Industry representatives say that if authorities do not intervene immediately to restore supply, a complete shutdown could begin as early as tomorrow.
The crisis has emerged after the supply of commercial LPG reportedly dropped by nearly 75 percent, leaving restaurant owners struggling to secure cylinders in the market. Many mid sized and large hotels typically require 15 to 20 commercial cylinders every day to run their kitchens.
Hotel operators say the shortage has already begun affecting regular operations. Several establishments are limiting menu items or reducing cooking hours to conserve the remaining gas supply.
The impact is also expected to extend beyond restaurants. Hostels, paying guest accommodations and small food messes across the city are facing similar difficulties, as they also depend heavily on commercial LPG cylinders for daily cooking.
Hotel associations have urged both state and central authorities to intervene immediately and ensure adequate gas supply. They warn that if the situation continues, thousands of employees working in hotels, eateries and hostels could be affected, while lakhs of residents who depend on these establishments for daily meals may also face disruptions.
