Earlier the Communist parties used to enjoy a big craze among the people. In the combined Andhra Pradesh, Telugu Desam Party and Congress showed interest in joining hands with them. Those who allied with them came to power. This is their legacy. However, the parties started losing importance and ended up like normal parties. Communist parties lost their glory gradually.

When Chandrababu Naidu joined hands with the BJP for the alliance in 1999, a new alliance took birth in the combined state. In 2004, YSR allied with communists and came to power. By taking the communist leaders into the Congress party, YSR weakened the communists. This left the Communist parties to end up as namasake parties. Even though Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao won as an MLA from Kothagudem in Bhadradri Kothagudem district we cannot see it as CPI’s strength as factors like alliance and negativity towards BRS MLA Vanama Venkateswara Rao played a key role. The CPM party also tried its luck but was not successful.

But there is no trace of comrades in the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh. There are only 30 days left for the elections. But no details about them on contesting the elections CPI looks to be a step ahead in this compared to CPM. Many say that the communists thinking about the alliance with Congress and approaching Sharmila for this can be seen as disrespect.

As the elections are approaching, the CPM is wrapping up things and they have decided to contest eight Assembly seats and Araku Parliament seat. There is no clarity on the seats that are allocated for CPI. Reports say that the party might also get the same number of seats CPM was allocated. Earlier other parties used to show interest in allying with them and now it was reversed.

Due to the state bifurcation, the Congress party collapsed in Andhra Pradesh. It is very tough for the Congress to win seats there. It would be a big shock even if the Congress gets deposits. When such is the Congress party’s situation, the communists are walking with the party. CPM and CPI are dealing with tough time already and it would be a big task for them to survive.
