Those who don't want pregnancy can go for the termination. There are a few rules which need to be followed. However, there is a limit on the age of pregnancy which would be allowed by the law. There is a special law named the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act which deals with this.

Under the law, the pregnancy can be allowed to terminate below 20-24 weeks and this is only for a few categories. But now the Supreme Court gave a historic verdict and allowed a teenager to go for termination. While allowing the same, the Apex Court said that this is a very rare case and hence permission is given.

Going into details, a 14-year-old girl was subjected to ra*e. With this she became pregnant. It was late before it was found that she became pregnant. After finding that she is pregnant, her mother moved the High Court to seek permission to terminate the 28 weeks pregnancy.

With the High Court not allowing it, the victim’s mother knocked on the doors of the Supreme Court. The bench led by Chief Justice of India Dhananjaya Y. Chandrachud heard the petition. The bench gave a big relief to the girl and allowed her to terminate the pregnancy of 30 weeks.

As the matter is complicated, the Supreme Court sought the report from the famous Sion Medical college. The Institute had set up a team of doctors and after examining the condition of the victim, the report was sent to the Supreme Court.

In the report the team of doctors reportedly said that though there is some risk with miscarriage it is less compared to the risk after the birth. Highlighting the age of the girl, the team said that it would impact the victim physically and mentally. Considering this, the Apex Court allowed the termination of the pregnancy.
