Hearing a petition, a High Court made sensational comments on Hindu marriage and the ceremonies that are involved in the marriage. A revision petition was filed with the High Court by a person. Hearing the plea, the High Court made crucial comments on the marriage and the rituals in the ceremony.

Going into details, a person moved the Allahabad High Court saying that the Kanyadanam ritual was not completed which makes the marriage incomplete. He knocked on the doors of the Court challenging the decision of the additional sessions court.

The Allahabad High Court said that Kanyadan is not an essential ritual in Hindu marriage but Saptapadi, taking seven steps is important in the marriage. The Court said that saptapadi is important to solemnize the marriage and Kanyadan is not important for this.

When the petitioner tried to stress that Kanyadan was not performed in the marriage and sought to take the witness from the attendees of the marriage.

To this, the High Court said that under section 311 CRPC they cannot call the witness to the court for the witness. Kanyadanam is not important to talk about the legality of marriage, the Court said.

While Kanyadanam is a ritual of handing over of the bride to the groom traditionally, Saptapadi is a ritual of the couple taking seven steps together around the holy pyre. Every step the couple takes has an importance.
