New Vice President of India: How Many Votes?

The news is official now as India has elected its 45th new vice president, and it is none other than CP Radhakrishnan, who was strengthened by the ruling NDA alliance. The election for the vice presidential candidate was held in the Parliament yesterday, and it was a close ballot election.

Incidentally, the NDA candidate won the election comfortably by a margin of 152 votes. This is a pretty substantial victory for the candidate who was anyway bound to win the election due to the support from the ruling alliance in the Parliament.

Radhakrishnan is originally from Tamil Nadu and he had been serving as the governor of Maharashtra in recent years before being announced as the vice president candidate.

However, there was a lot of tension associated with vice president election with Rahul Gandhi and the opposition INDIA alliance strengthening Telugu candidate Sudershan Reddy.

But in the end, the result turned out to be in favour of the NDA alliance as CP Radhakrishnan ended up winning the vice president election by a comfortable margin of 152 votes. It turned out to be 15 MPs belonging to the opposition alliance have also voted for the NDA candidate, which is very surprising.

This is to be studied as things are not looking very promising for the opposition alliance in the Parliament with this election.
