Even a small kid will answer the question of which is the most popular sport in the country. Anyone will say that Cricket is the most popular sport in the country and no words can describe the craze the sport has among the fans.

In a few weeks, the biggest cricket event, the World Cup is going to start with India hosting the tournament. Ahead of this, the demand to declare Cricket as the national sport is gaining momentum. A former cricketer and a noted player already batted for the demand.

During a recent interaction, Wicket Keeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik made some interesting comments. He said that Cricket should be made the National Sport given the following and the craze the sport has.

Veteran Indian bowler Venkatesh Prasad reacted to what Dinesh Karthik said and supported it. Taking to Twitter he extended his support. Saying that he supports the claim Venkatesh Prasad said that given the pride and joy Cricket brings, it should be declared a national game.

"My friend @DineshKarthik supported cricket becoming the national sport of our country in a discussion on ShareChat! I agree with him. The kind of pride and joy it brings to the people of India, it's about time that we recognize cricket as the national game," Venkatesh Prasad said.

On the other hand, many think that hockey is the national sport of India. As India won Gold at big events many have the opinion that it is a national sport. But what most people don't know is that Hockey is not the national sport.

Back in 2020, a school teacher from Maharashtra filed an RTI (Right to Information) query to know why Hockey was declared as the national sport. In the response, the Government said that no sport was declared as the national game as the government intends to promote all sports.
