Dasara Dhamaka: All Time Record Liquor Sales In Telangana!
Officials said the rise was mainly due to heavy buying before the Gandhi Jayanti dry day on October 2, when alcohol sales are banned across the state.
By: Tupaki Desk | 4 Oct 2025 3:14 PM ISTThe Dasara festival is often celebrated in Telangana with great amount of liquor consumption, and the same trend was exhibited this year as well.
Liquor sales in Telangana increased by 7 percent during the Dasara season compared to last year. According to the state excise department, total liquor revenue in September 2025 reached ₹3,048 crore, up from ₹2,838 crore in September 2024.
Officials said the rise was mainly due to heavy buying before the Gandhi Jayanti dry day on October 2, when alcohol sales are banned across the state.
In just three days from September 29 to October 1, Telangana recorded liquor sales worth ₹697.23 crore, which was almost 60 to 80 percent higher than the same period last year. People rushed to buy in advance, leading to record single-day sales in several districts.
The data also shows a difference in what people preferred to drink. Indian Made Liquor (IML) sales increased from 28.81 lakh cases last year to 29.92 lakh cases this year. However, beer sales fell from 39.71 lakh cases to 36.46 lakh cases, possibly because of cooler weather or changing consumer choices.
Officials say festival seasons like Dasara always boost liquor sales, but this year’s growth was stronger than expected. While the increase in sales brought higher tax revenue to the government, experts warn it also highlights concerns about rising alcohol consumption during festive times.
