Drop in air quality and the national capital Delhi go hand in hand for every winter season. Whenever the winter season starts, air pollution grips the region. Even the offices are educational institutions are given holidays. Schools and colleges are asked to start online classes.

Amid this, the Supreme Court made some crucial comments. Talking about the air pollution in Delhi, the top court said that the drop in the air quality is not a small thing and it is a very serious issue as far as public health is concerned. Having said that the Apex Court urged the concerned states to take the required measures.

As the Diwali festival is fast approaching the Supreme Court said that the restrictions imposed for firecrackers are not restricted to Delhi alone and would be applied to all the states. The Court said that the ban cannot be imposed completely unless people won't take the active step.

It is known that stubble burning is done in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan during the same period which impacts the air quality in the national capital Delhi as it is close to these states.

Talking about the practice of stubble burning, the Supreme Court said that the Centre should call a meeting with the concerned states to stop it as people are finding it difficult to breathe in Delhi.

"We want it stopped. We don't know how you do it, it's your job. But it must be stopped. Something has to be done immediately," the bench said on the issue.

On the occasion, the Supreme Court also rapped the Delhi government. The Apex Court said that many buses are polluting the air as they are running at half-fitness and asked what the government is doing on this.
