It's not that the state lacks the resources. There are a few rivers in the state. However, the fruits could not be used for the state which is concerning. The Par-Tapi-Narmada River linking project was initiated decades back. Despite this, the project could not be finished due to various reasons.
The project saw a big push in 2019 when Devendra Fadnavis was the Chief Minister as his government put a big focus on the project. Cut to 2022 the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance government took the project prestigious and a big allocation was made to this as far as the funds are concerned.
Given the importance of the project, the Deputy Chief Minister is speeding up the work so that it can be finished at the earliest and the water issues can be sorted out.
Talking about the ‘Nar-Par river’ linking project, it works in a way that the excess water from the Nar and Par rivers would be sent into the Girna river valley. Canals and tunnels would come in handy in the big project. The project is expected to provide water to as many as 50,000 hectares of land in the Nashik and Jalgaon regions.
Not just that other initiatives are also launched to address the issue. Jalyukta Shivar Yojana and the Marathwada Water Grid project were initiated. The nalganga-Wainganga interlinking project was started which aims at providing irrigation water to 3.71 lakh hectares in six districts.
