The much-awaited mini-auction for the 2024 IPL was concluded recently in Dubai. The auction grabbed everyone’s attention as the teams did not shy away from spending big amounts to buy the players. A few players made the best out of the auction and were purchased for record prices.

It was a big shock that foreign players were purchased for a record price. Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins were brought for record price. The highest prices recorded by Indian players in the past were also broken by the two Australian players which was unexpected.

While Australian skipper Pat Cummins was bought for Rs 20.5 crore, his teammate Mitchell Starc was sold for Rs 24.75 crore. A few former players are coming up with their views on this trend.

Wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik said that the players and their agents are making the best out of the auction by attending the mini-auctions instead of mega auctions knowing the situation of the IPL teams.

Having spoken about the trends used by the players and agents to get more money, Dinesh Karthik came up with two solutions. He said that a cap should be imposed on the prices for the released players and limiting the bids.

Dinesh Karthik said that there should be a cap on the prices which would be spent on released players. The money spent on them should not cross the price they received in the major auction. He also said that a limit should be kept on the mini-auctions. Money spent beyond this should be taken by the BCCI.

The player said that these are the ideas he is suggesting and expressed the belief that BCCI would look into this and take the right call.
