By: Priya Chowdhary Nuthalapti | 19 Sept 2025 5:38 PM ISTIn both Telugu states, schools and colleges are preparing for the upcoming Dussehra festival holidays. According to reports, in Andhra Pradesh, schools have been given holidays from October 2 to October 22, 2025, totaling 21 days. Out of these, 3 days are regular holidays, while the remaining are festival-related breaks.
Parents and student unions, however, are requesting an extension of the holidays. They argue that many children travel to their hometowns and villages during the festival and returning in just a few days becomes difficult. For this reason, parents and unions are demanding that the holidays be extended to 24 days instead of 21.
Similarly, in Telangana, schools will remain closed from September 21 to October 3, 2025, giving students almost two weeks of break. While this is welcomed, some parent are also asking for more days of holiday to ensure children can fully enjoy the festival and spend enough time with their families.
Every year, there are frequent debates around the length of Dussehra holidays, especially in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Parents prefer longer holidays, while the education departments try to balance festive breaks with academic schedules.
This year too, discussions are ongoing, and it remains to be seen whether the respective governments will approve the request to increase the number of holidays for schools.
