In the recent past, there have been several regulations and complications that have come into OPT reporting and general work permit visa in the United States. Now there are going to be serious consequences for misreporting the OPD data. Here is a story involving a guy who faced the brunt of the attack for the same

An F1 student in the United States recently faced serious trouble due to a small but critical reporting mistake during OPT employment updates.

While entering work details in the SEVP portal, the student mistakenly mentioned the company’s physical office address instead of their residential address, even though the job was fully remote. This created confusion in official records, showing the student as working simultaneously in different states.

The issue escalated further when one of the employments listed under STEM OPT did not include a supervisor’s name.

These inconsistencies raised red flags, as such mismatches are often treated as potential fraud or unauthorized employment by immigration authorities. What was actually a clerical error began to appear like a deliberate violation of visa rules.

Immigration experts point out that remote work reporting errors have become common, especially after work from home arrangements increased. However, even genuine mistakes can lead to serious consequences if not corrected properly and on time.

Students are strongly advised not to make repeated edits on their own. Instead, they should immediately approach their Designated School Officer, who can officially correct the records and provide explanations if required.

This case highlights how minor OPT reporting errors can risk visa status and future immigration opportunities if ignored.
