Meta Fate: Simple Sorry In India, But 5000 Cr In USA!

Meta, which is the parent company for multiple social media platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook has come under the radar of the Indian government recently.

Things are not looking promising now as the company is facing a lot of complaints about restricting content and also sharing inappropriate child content on their platforms.

Incidentally, when this situation came up in India, where Meta was roughed up by the Indian authorities, they got away with a simple sorry from CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

However, when it comes to the American market, things are completely different as the company has been fined nearly $1 billion for a similar charge.

A New Mexico court just ruled that META Facebook and Instagram harmed children, and ordered the company to pay $942M and change how the apps work for teens.

The state's Attorney General had accused Meta of designing its platforms to be addictive to young users and failing to protect them from predators.

This week, the judge went further and ruled that Meta's platform design itself counts as a public nuisance the same legality normally used against polluters and tobacco companies is now applied to a tech platform for the first time.

While Meta was able to get away with a simple sorry in India that was not even remotely the case in the United States as they are now having to pay nearly $1 billion to the state.

It is strange to see one of the biggest social media platforms in the world facing so many issues all of a sudden, and this could suggest a massive glitch in operations.
