Trump called Patel a "brilliant lawyer and investigator" committed to justice and protecting the American people. Patel previously played a significant role during Trump’s first term. Particularly in revealing what Trump termed the "Russia Hoax."
Patel has been vocal about reforming the FBI. He proposed dismantling the agency's intelligence operations and turning its headquarters into a "museum of the deep state." He suggested redistributing the 7,000 employees across the country to focus on crime investigations.
Patel pursued a legal career after earning his law degree. He began as a public defender in Florida later joining the Department of Justice as a prosecutor. His work on international terrorism cases brought him to the Department of Defense where he collaborated on counterterrorism efforts.
Patel’s career shifted into politics when Congressman Devin Nunes recruited him to the House Intelligence Committee. There Patel contributed to the GOP memo alleging FBI bias in the Russia investigation earning significant attention.
In Trump’s first term Patel served as Chief of Staff to the Acting Secretary of Defense shaping national security policies.
