He was the voice of the news for a few decades. His voice was the reason behind people sticking to the TVs to watch the news. At the time when DD was the source of news, he became popular and is dubbed as the first News reader.

His name is Santhi Swaroop who was the newsreader with Doordarshan news channel. It would not be an exaggeration in saying he was the main reason behind Telugu people developing interest in watching news.

The veteran newsreader breathed his last. The media reports say that he breathed his last while undergoing treatment for heart attack. It's been over a decade since he is retired from the profession.

The TV industry went through a lot of changes and reached the current position. This was not the case with the industry a few decades back. There were no big facilities and equipment in the industry back then.

When there were no teleprompters when he was working in the industry. Despite this Santhi Swaroop did not make any mistakes while reading news and was accurate in his job. He was the inspiration for many newsreaders in the industry.

He used to memorize the news which was return on the paper and then read them in the bulletin. It was a big shock that the industry lost the veteran personality.

As a big feather in his illustrious cap Santhi Swaroop was honoured with the life time achievement award back in 2010. It is very rare for the newsreaders to get awards. But he was honoured with the big award.

His association with Doordarshan started back in 1978 as he joined the channel back then. But he started reading news in 1983.

After the news broke out condolence messages are pouring in for the veteran newsreader who enjoyed a glorious career that lasted for a few decades.
