It is already known that the United States authorities have started to move gradually away from the H1B Visa permits. It has now reached a point where when governors and public representatives have started to openly address the same.

Ron DeSantis has ordered public universities in Florida to stop using H one B visas for hiring foreign workers.

He said recent audits showed that some universities hired foreign nationals, including people from China, for public policy and research roles. He argued that these jobs should go to Americans and said, “We can do it with Americans.”

This decision can affect the Indian population in a big way. Indians are the largest group of H one B visa holders in the United States.

Many Indian professionals work as professors, researchers, and technical experts in American universities. If Florida universities stop hiring through the H one B program, Indian scholars may lose job opportunities in that state.

Indian students who plan to study in Florida and later work there could also be affected. Some may choose other states where hiring rules are more flexible. Over time, this could reduce the number of Indian professionals working in Florida’s education system.

There may also be financial impact. Many Indian families invest heavily in education abroad. If work opportunities reduce, students may think twice before choosing certain universities.

However, this order currently applies only to Florida’s public universities. Other states may continue hiring foreign talent under existing visa rules.
