Indian H1Bs Facing Discrimination In US: What’s Up?

By: Tupaki Desk | 6 Feb 2026 2:06 PM ISTIt is already known that the Indian working population largely depends on the H1B visa in the United States for work permission and survival there. It is turning out to be that many of these H1B Visa holders are facing a lot of discrimination in the local United States sectors.
In parts of Texas, growing frustration over the number of H-1B visa holders has spilled into public debates and accusations of discrimination against Indian immigrants.
Critics have claimed that highly skilled workers, many of whom are Indian nationals on H-1B visas, are “taking over” local communities and jobs, especially in tech hubs like Frisco and the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
These sentiments surfaced clearly at a recent Frisco City Council meeting, where some attendees argued that the influx of H-1B workers has changed the character of the city and taken opportunities away from American workers. Opponents linked their concerns to alleged visa fraud and called the demographic shifts an “Indian takeover,” despite these claims lacking substantive evidence.
Meanwhile, Indian-American residents and local leaders pushed back strongly, saying their community contributes economically and culturally and warning against broad stereotyping of an entire group.
At the state level, Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered a freeze on new H-1B visa petitions by public agencies and universities while the Attorney-General launched probes into possible visa abuse. The situation highlights how immigration policy, economic anxiety, and cultural identity are intersecting in debates over the H-1B program.
