Google employees at the Chelsea office in New York City had an unexpected problem recently a bed bug outbreak. Over the weekend, staff received an email from the management warning them about the presence of bed bugs inside the office building. Professional exterminators were immediately called to handle the issue.

According to reports, a sniffer dog was used to detect the bugs, and credible signs of infestation were found. Employees were asked to stay home temporarily until the cleaning and treatment were completed. By Monday, staff were allowed to return to work, but Google decided to take extra precautions to ensure the safety of its employees.

The company also started inspecting other offices in New York, including the Hudson Square campus, just to be safe. Employees were advised to report any possible symptoms of bug bites or sightings at the workplace. If anyone found bed bugs at home, they were instructed to contact pest control professionals for help.

Interestingly, some employees mentioned that the large stuffed toys in the office might have played a role in the spread, though this has not been officially confirmed. Google, however, did not comment on these claims.

This is not the first time Google’s New York office has faced such an issue. In 2010, its 9th Avenue office also experienced a bed bug problem during a city-wide infestation.
