By: Tupaki Desk | 22 Sept 2025 10:08 AM ISTThe President of United States, Donald Trump has officially communicated that the new H1B fee structure will be hiked to 100K dollars. This is showing significant impact on the Indian community in the United States, and it is also reported that several marriages are getting cancelled for this reason.
The sudden announcement of a US$100,000 H-1B visa fee by the Trump administration has caused widespread panic among Indian visa holders in the U.S. The policy, revealed just days before the September 21 deadline, left many confused and fearful about whether it would affect their ability to travel or return.
One major impact has been on weddings. Several Indians who had planned to travel to India for their own marriages or family weddings have postponed or cancelled the events. Some were worried they might not be able to return to their jobs in the U.S., while others faced uncertainty about whether they would need to pay the steep new fee.
Alongside marriages, travel for festivals like Diwali has also been cancelled. Airlines and airports reported last-minute ticket cancellations, and tech companies even advised H-1B and H-4 visa holders abroad to return quickly before the new rules take effect.
The Indian government expressed concern, saying such sudden policy shifts disrupt families and create emotional distress. Though later clarifications said the new fee applies only to fresh applications, many believe the damage is already done, as panic forced people to change life-changing plans overnight.
