An Indian origin entrepreneur, Anita Ratnam, has raised alarm over what she describes as a troubling rise in hate incidents targeting Indians and Indian Americans across the United States.
Taking to X, Ratnam shared disturbing accounts from people in her circle, including U.S. born Indian Americans, who were subjected to racist abuse in public spaces.
In one instance, a friend was told to “go back to your country” while traveling on public transport. In another, a person was reportedly spat on inside a grocery store. These incidents, she pointed out, show that even citizens are not spared from racial hostility.
Ratnam tagged the Indian American Advocacy Council in her post, urging community bodies and authorities to take note of the situation and offer stronger support mechanisms for those affected.
Her post triggered responses from several others who narrated similar experiences of discrimination, indicating that the problem may be wider than isolated cases. The article notes that these accounts come amid growing concern about anti Indian rhetoric both online and offline in parts of the U.S.
