The biggest Cricket event, the World Cup was concluded recently. The cricketing world and fans were glued to the screens for the event. Disney+ Hotstar OTT which streamed the games struck gold in viewership and recorded over 5 crore viewers in every match in the final stage of the tournament.

The World Cup which gave a lot of hope and entertainment to Indian fans throughout gave a big heartbreak as India could not lift the trophy. India which remained unbeaten throughout the tournament lost in the finals to the Australian side.

As the 2023 edition ended recently let us know more details about the tournament and the history behind preparing the trophy. The World Cup is played once every four years and the nations that host the tournaments are selected by the International Cricket Council, the international cricket governing body.

Let us know the history of the tournament first. The World Cup was played for the first time in 1975. The tournament was hosted by England and the mighty West Indies lifted the trophy. ODIs were played for 60 overs back then. In their quota, West Indies scored 291 runs. In response, Australia was restricted to 274 in just 58.4 overs.

In 1996 new World Cup trophy came into existence and Garrard & Co (the Crown Jewellers) based in London prepares the trophy. Since then the World Cup trophy has been having a template of three silver stands and a globe on top of this.

It is said that the trophy weighs around 11 kilos which is made up of gold and silver. It costs around Rs 31 lakhs in Indian currency. However, the original trophy will be placed at the main office of ICC in Dubai and the winning teams will be given a copy of the trophy.
