There is no doubt that Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT)s are the premium institutions in the country and those who have big dreams and aspirants go there. There is a popular opinion that enrolling in IITs and getting a degree would result in landing big jobs.

Now an interesting thing came out which says that around 33 percent of students of an IIT institute could not get the jobs last year. In an RTI reply, the IIT is said to have given the data which is shocking.

As per the media reports, around 33 percent of students of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur could not land on placements last year. While as many as 2,490 students enrolled themselves for the placement in 2022-2023,1,675 managed to get the jobs.

There was a similar case in the previous season too with students unable to get jobs. In 2021-22 only 1,615 students managed to get jobs out of 2,256. However, 404 students got pre-placement offers and the count is 574 in 2022-23.

It is said that the average salary of students who landed jobs is Rs 18 lakhs per annum in 2022-23 while it was Rs 16 lakhs per annum in 2021-22.

Despite the average salary being high the students are unable to get the jobs. If we look at the reasons for this, the uncertainty of the global economy can be seen as a big factor. We have been seeing the big companies going for the layoffs. In the middle of the picture, it is tough for the companies to take the students into jobs and hence there was no cent percent placements.

The slots mentioned by the companies for the students for the jobs are also a reason as the companies reportedly want to quote fewer numbers. It is said that all these factors are leading to fewer placements.
