It’s been a few weeks since the 2023 World Cup tournament was concluded. But the World Cup trophy continues to stay in the middle of the headlines for some or other reasons. Australian player Mitchell Marsh landed in a big controversy after his picture of placing his legs on the trophy went viral on social media.

Several objections were raised on this. Not only fans but also a few players expressed dissatisfaction over this. Indian pacer Mohammed Shami also joined the row and said that what Mitchell Marsh made him sad as the World Cup trophy is not something on which legs should be kept on.

Despite so many voices being raised on the issue Mitchell Marsh appears to be in no mood to apologise for what had happened. He said that what he did was not disrespectful and he would not shy away from repeating the same act.

The player said he would do that again probably. Defending what he did, Mitchell Marsh said he didn’t think what he did was disrespect to the trophy and he didn’t think about it.

Marsh said he did not give too much thought into the issue and he doesn’t use social media that often. There is nothing in the issue and he would do that again probably.

“There was obviously no disrespect meant in that photo at all. I haven’t given it too much thought, I haven’t seen a lot on social media even though everyone tells me it’s gone off. There’s nothing in that,” the all-rounder said.

The controversy started when the pictures of the Australian players' celebrations went viral. Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh was spotted placing his legs on the trophy. He also held a bottle in his hand. Since then, the issue has been in the news at regular intervals.
