It is already known that the prices of rare elements like gold and silver have been going up rather very steeply, almost every single day. In this context, the government has passed a new resolution regarding the weight limit for the limit of gold that can be carried by individuals at the airports.

When passengers return to India from abroad, there are clear customs rules about carrying gold. According to current regulations, women travelers are allowed to bring up to 40 grams of gold jewellery without paying customs duty.

Male travelers are allowed to carry up to 20 grams of gold jewellery duty free. This gold must be for personal use and should be part of the passenger’s personal baggage. Commercial quantity or intention can lead to penalties and seizure by customs officials.

The rules apply only if the traveler has stayed outside India for more than six months or one year depending on the category. Gold coins and gold bars are not covered under the jewellery allowance and must be declared separately. If the quantity exceeds the permitted limit, customs duty has to be paid at the airport.

Recent reports say the government is focusing on simplifying baggage rules to reduce confusion for international passengers. Authorities have also increased the overall duty free allowance for goods brought by travelers, making it easier for returning Indians and overseas residents.

However, officials have warned that strict checks are still being carried out at airports to prevent gold smuggling. Travelers are advised to follow the rules carefully and declare gold honestly to avoid fines, delays, or legal trouble.
