Now this is being contemplated by multiple other countries, and India could be the new addition to the list.
Incidentally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who have to be on an official visit to Australia made an interesting comment to this effect.
Violin interacting with the Prime Minister of Australia, Modi pointed out that he is closely observing the recent development from the Australian government, where they restricted kids under 16 from using social media.
Modi gave the implication that the Indian government is also contemplating of the like this and an announcement could be made any time. This could be a strong indication that the Indian authorities are also closely following the mechanism from Australia and could soon enforce a restriction on kids under 16 from using social media.
Considering the fact that India is one of the biggest consumers of the internet and also the social media mechanism, it must be a pretty tough process to restrict kids under 16.
Considering negative effects of social media on kids under 16 years of age, this could be wise decision from the Indian authorities and they appear to be on the job already.
