What Now! No excise Duty On High Ethanol Petrol!
The government of India has decided to remove the excise duty on ethanol petrol.
By: Tupaki Desk | 11 Jun 2026 12:37 PM ISTThe government of India had been extensively promoting the high ethanol consumption with regard to petrol supply across the country, and now a significant decision has been made.
The government of India has decided to remove the excise duty on ethanol petrol and this decision could very well promote the consumption of this category of petrol.
The central government has exempted petrol blended with higher ethanol content from excise duty, according to a Finance Ministry notification dated June 10, 2026.
The waiver covers E22, E25, E27, and E30 fuel variants, meaning petrol containing 22% to 30% ethanol will now attract nil excise duty. This is the first major fiscal push for ethanol blends above the existing E20 standard.
This comes shortly after the roads and buildings, minister, Nithin Gadkari had encouraged the Indian population to increasingly depend on high ethanol petrol in the days to follow.
However, we have to patiently wait and see how the Indian population would be reacting to this matter now, considering the fact that ethanol could damage the longevity of the vehicle engine.
There is a lot of negative criticism against this topic, and we have to see how the implementation of higher grade ethanol would be received by the common public.
