By: Tupaki Desk | 6 Feb 2025 1:03 PMAs we reported earlier, the government of United States devoted as many as 104 Indian illegal immigrants. The US military aircraft carrying these Indians arrived in Amritsar yesterday, and the immigrants were subsequently prosecuted by the Indian government adequately.
However, the point of discussion after the deportation has been that the US government cuffed the hands and legs of the immigrants while deporting them. These cuffs remained on the passengers through the course of the flight.
On this matter, External Affairs Minister, Jaishankar issued a clarification in the parliament. While speaking in the Parliament, Jai Shankar said this is the standard protocol utilised by the United States GOVERNMENT when it comes to deportations.
He revealed that it is a standard military protocol to cuff the men during deportation while the women and under age children are let free. These handcuffs are taken off while using the washroom or during feeding time. He revealed that this is a standard protocol, followed by the United States and it cannot be meddled with.
However, the Congress party took serious offence to this statement in the parliament as they replied “We are protesting the way in which the deportation was done—sending them in a military aircraft and that too in handcuffs is an insult to India; it's an insult to the dignity of Indians. Not long ago, Columbia refused to accept people in these circumstances and officially protested when they were sent in handcuffs.
They had demanded that the people be sent in civilian aircrafts and only then they'll accept them. And I think we have to do the same. They have every legal right to deport people who are illegally in their country, and if they are proven to be Indians, then we have an obligation to receive them. But not in this manner.”
