Indian Lady Living in US For 3 Decades Detained By ICE!

The onset of the Donald Trump administration in the United States has started to have strong repercussions on the Indian community and things are not likely to slowdown in the future either.

Now we have the case of an Indian lady who has been detained by the immigration control authorities. This comes at a time when she had already lived nearly 3 decades in the United States, but that did not stop the immigration authorities from detaining her.

Going into the story, Venkata Narsamamba Vasamsetty, an Indian-origin public school teacher who has lived lawfully in the United States for 27 years and held a Green Card since 2013, was abruptly detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

This detaining happened during a routine check-in in Charlotte, North Carolina and also, her arrest came despite an immigration judge having already terminated removal proceedings against her in May.

This came after the Department of Homeland Security failed to provide evidence that she had abandoned her lawful permanent resident status.

She has been operating as a teacher for children with special needs and had been maintaining a stable presence in the United States for the last 27 years. She had come to India in 2022 during the Covid pandemic and stayed for 7 months. This triggered the US authorities and they have started the removal process again.

This is not going to be an individual incident in the United States either as more such Indians could be falling into the traps set by the United States immigration control authorities.
