The Indian student community in the United States has been growing larger and larger by the day with thousands of students flying to the US on a daily basis. In accordance with this, there are several scams and related activities that have been happening involving the Indian community.

Here is one such story involving a young female Indian student who fell prey to a deportation scam that looted her for Rs 4.2 lakh.

An Indian student named Shreya Bedi, who recently moved to the United States for higher studies, became a victim of a scam and lost ₹4.2 lakh (around $5,000).

The scam began when she received a call from someone pretending to be from U.S. Immigration. The caller claimed that there were problems with her immigration documents and that she could face deportation if she didn’t act quickly.

They frightened her by saying she was involved in illegal activities and made it look official by using fake documents and video calls. Out of fear, Shreya followed their instructions. She was told not to contact anyone and to stay on a video call while transferring money to their account. She believed she was protecting her student status.

Later, she realized it was a scam and reported it. The incident has shocked many other students and raised awareness about such frauds. Authorities have warned international students to be careful and never trust unknown callers asking for money or personal information.
