F1 Visa Plummets: Is It End of Indian Student Travel To USA?

The United States of America has been one of the primary destinations for the Indian community globally with regard to employment opportunities and also higher studies.

However, the latest developments are suggesting that we have entered the saturation point for this international travel visa with regard to the Indian student population migrating to the United States.

For instance, the volume of the Indian students who were able to get the F1 student visa from the United States was 86,000 in 2024. This number dropped less than half to just 40,000 in 2025.

This was a result of the arrival of the Donald Trump administration in the United States, which also brought multiple restrictions on student visa along with other work permits.

Things have started to go organising a bad again since October 2025 to February 2026, as the United States issued just 4500 student visa to Indians. It is evident that the number of the Indian students who have been gaining access to the United States visa has been dropping consistently.

It is being reported that it might be a matter of time before the Indian dream of studying in the United States for higher studies could be a thing in the past. Certain measures are being taken by the United States authorities to restrict the international student population, and that is clearly working in their favour.
