Indian-Origin Man Attracts Fine,Jail Term For Drunk Driving!

Drunk and driving is one of the major reasons for deaths globally. Driving vehicles in an intoxicated state also increases the chances of road mishaps. Road injuries increase when commuters drive under the influence of alcohol. There are different laws in various countries for this.

The violation made an Indian-origin man in Singapore attract a fine and jail term. The violation happened a few years back and the court slapped him with the prison term now. He is also facing charges of creating obstacles to fellow commuters on the road.

Going into detail, a 45-year-old Indian-origin person identified as Manikam Varatharaj was driving his car in Woodlands on September 22, 2019, in Singapore. While he was traveling in the early hours he saw that there was a police roadblock. To escape this he took another route.

He met a person there and requested him to take care of his vehicle for some time. However, the person sensed something fishy and informed the local police. They came to the spot and arrested him.

The Indian-origin man accepted that he was drunk. Besides being drunk and driving the car, the charges of creating inconvenience to others were also slapped against him. He left the car on the road.

A court in Singapore convicted Manikam Varatharaj of the charges and slapped him with a jail term of three weeks. On top of this, he was also asked to pay a fine of S$6,800 for the violations. His driving license was also suspended for 42 months and he cannot drive any vehicle now.
