For many years now, the Indian population had been extensively occupied with the American dream has settling abroad has been a major factor. But things are starting to change due to new restrictions brought by the United States administration.

For decades, the United States symbolized success for many Indians a foreign degree, a high-paying job, and the promise of long-term residency were seen as the ultimate goal. But that perception is changing in 2026.

Increasingly, Indians are hesitating to move abroad or are choosing to return home after studying or working in the US. Several factors are driving this shift.

Visa and immigration uncertainty tops the list. H‑1B visas and green cards are harder to secure, and long waits, complex procedures, and stricter screening make long-term settlement stressful.

Job instability also plays a role. Even highly skilled professionals face layoffs and hiring slowdowns, making employment in the US less secure than it once seemed.

Rising costs of education, rent, and healthcare have made the financial payoff of moving abroad less attractive. Many families are questioning whether the investment is worth the uncertainty.

At the same time, India’s growing opportunities are hard to ignore. Expanding tech sectors, thriving startups, and a strong domestic market are encouraging professionals to build their careers at home rather than wait for uncertain prospects overseas.

Experts note a psychological shift as well: the American Dream is no longer seen as a guaranteed path to success. For many Indians, it is now a choice, weighed against emerging opportunities and a more promising future in their own country.
