Over the years the trend of Indians moving to the West and other nations had picked up with the numbers picking up massively with every passing year. Recently the US said a record number of visas were given to Indian students and the numbers make up a major share of visas issued globally.

Compared to other purposes more Indians move to other nations for education purposes. With the rise in their numbers, the unfortunate incidents involving Indians in these nations are also on the rise. Since 2018, over four hundred students passed away abroad due to various reasons.

When a question was raised in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan in writing said that since 2018, 403 Indian students died abroad due to various reasons across the countries.

The data shared by the Minister said that the most number of deaths were reported from Canada with 91 incidents followed by the United Kingdom (48), Russia (40), the United States (36), Australia (35), Ukraine (21), Germany (20), Cyprus (14), Italy(10) and Philippines(10).

Talking about the authenticity of the data the Minister said that the heads of mission/post and senior officials regularly keep track of what if anything happens students approach them to either share the information or file a compliant.

The numbers cited by the Minister might look small in general. But the percentage is not small and it sheds light on the plight of the Indian students living there.

Gun culture is popular in many nations and we heard a few incidents in which Indian students were shot. Roaming on the streets at night is not safe. This could be one of the top reasons behind the deaths.

On the other hand road mishaps are increasing massively and these incidents are claiming the lives of Indians. Recently an Indian died in a fatal accident.
