With Hyderabad turning into the global hub for the ongoing Miss World 2025 pageant, its a good moment to look back at Indias powerful legacy in this competition. While this years winner is yet to be announced, India has already made history six times at Miss World, and each win carries its own story of beauty, intelligence, and ambition.

It began with Rita Faria in 1966, the first Asian and the first medical doctor to ever win the title. Nearly three decades later, Aishwarya Rai claimed the crown in 1994 and quickly became an international icon. Diana Hayden followed in 1997, and Yuktamukhi in 1999. In 2000, Priyanka Chopra followed, catapulting her into international fame. Manushi Chhillar, a medical student who became a pageant queen in 2017, was the most recent Indian winner. Judges were delighted by her composure and social activities.

In the history of Indian pageants, the year 2000 is still unrivaled. In that one year, Indian women achieved a historic clean sweep on three international stages: Priyanka Chopra won Miss World, Lara Dutta won Miss Universe, and Dia Mirza won Miss Asia Pacific.

With six Miss World titles between them, India and the UK are now on equal footing. The only country ahead is Venezuela. The globe is keeping a close eye on the 2025 edition; will India add a seventh to its list? Hyderabad may experience yet another glorious moment.
