In a surprising turn of events, Infosys, a major player in the tech industry, has made the decision to terminate approximately 400 trainees from its Mysore campus in Karnataka. Reports suggest the layoffs occurred after these individuals failed to pass multiple evaluation tests. This action has sparked a wave of criticism, particularly because these trainees were part of a group that Infosys had only recently hired after facing backlash over its recruitment practices.

The layoffs targeted trainees who had joined the company in October of the previous year, with a specific focus on those who did not succeed in three consecutive evaluation tests. According to reports, the affected individuals were grouped and asked to sign documents agreeing to a 'mutual separation' from the company. Despite the growing controversy, Infosys has not released any official statement regarding the matter.

One of the trainees affected by the layoffs voiced their frustration, stating, "This is very unfair. They made the tests very tough with the intention of making us fail. Now our future has become difficult." This sentiment reflects the broader discontent among the laid-off trainees regarding how the situation was managed.

In response to the layoffs, the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate has announced its intention to lodge a formal complaint with the Labor Department. The organization expressed its concern over the situation and is taking steps to address the issue. The trainees were reportedly given a deadline to leave the campus, adding to the urgency of the matter.

Infosys had previously recruited 2,000 fresh graduates for the 2022-23 hiring cycle, filling positions such as System Engineer and Digital Specialist Engineer. Despite passing all required tests, these recruits faced delays in joining the company, which led to public scrutiny and a complaint filed with the labor department. The controversy had seemingly been resolved when the recruits were finally integrated into their roles in April 2024, after a two-year wait. This recent development, however, has brought new challenges to the forefront.
