For the past few days, an intense debate has been going on about the work culture and what would be the ideal number of working hours for the employees. Courtesy Infosys Founder N. R. Narayana Murthy, the debate was started and people started giving their opinions.

Infosys Narayana Murthy kickstarted a big row with his comments saying that young people should work 70 hours a week. He is getting a wide range of criticism from various corners. Compared to others, the IT employees are fuming at the veteran for his comments. They say that if their working hours are increased then they will not get to spend time with their families.

Not just the subject experts, a famous cardiologist from Bengaluru also waged into the debate and said that people will not have time to socialize and spend time with the family. He also mentioned that a few companies expect employees to answer emails and phones even after working hours. Citing all these as reasons, the cardiologist said that it is no wonder why young people are getting heart attacks.

Keeping the flame in the issue burning, CP Gurnani, CEO of Tech Mahindra responded to the controversy. Saying that he has seen the criticism Narayana Murthy has been facing, he defended the Infosys Founder and tried to explain what he meant.

The Tech Mahindra CEO said that Narayana Murthy meant working 70 hours for the country and improving oneself but not for the company.

He opined that 70 hours of work is what differentiates a youngster and the country and urged youngsters to invest 10,000 hours which makes one a master in one's subject.

On the other hand, the Chairperson of the RPG Group Harsh Goenka gave his take on the issue and said that working 50 or 70 hours is not an issue but productivity is what matters. While giving his opinion on the Hybrid work model which replaced the 5-day office week model in many places he made these comments. He said that the shift should be adopted and embraced.
