IPL Postponed For A Week: What Next?

As we had reported earlier, it is officially confirmed that the ongoing season of IPL 2025 has been suspended indefinitely for the next one week or so. This comes during the prevailing situation between India and Pakistan, as things are starting to look very challenging.

On that note, the latest developments are suggesting that the IPL governing body and also the BCCI are contemplating multiple options for the assumption of the tournament.

While there are obvious implications that the IPL could be starting shortly after the prevailing situations get simplified and we are back to normalcy, here’s what the BCCI had to say about the same.

The decision was taken by the IPL Governing Council after due consultation with all key stakeholders following the representations from most of the franchisees, who conveyed the concern and sentiments of their players, and also the views of the broadcaster, sponsors and fans ; while the BCCI reposes full faith in the strength and preparedness of our armed forces, the Board considered it prudent to act in the collective interest of all stakeholders, the statement read.

One possible option is to wait for the preparing situation to tone down and then resume the tournament in secure stadiums like Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and others.

And if that is not possible, then the option is to go for foreign countries to host the tournament. This happened previously in the case of Covid when the tournament was shifted to UAE for more efficient handling. It has to be seen if this would actually turn out to be the case again this time.
