Not Cricket Kits, But IPL Team Promised In Election Manifesto!

The election siren was buzzed for the poll-bound states and we are already seeing the election fever getting increased. The political parties are on a spree of announcing freebies and promises to woo the voters. We are hearing a lot of big promises announced by the parties.

The other day, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) promised free phones, washing machines, and land for the landless. But now everyone is talking about the Madhya Pradesh elections as the Congress party surprised everyone with a flood of promises.

The grand old Congress party announced big promises like health insurance cover, Old Pension Scheme, caste census, and Nari Samman Nidhi of ₹1500 per month to women. Many might wonder what is the specialty in this as almost every party is promising similar things.

But the Congress party went a few steps ahead and said that it would bring a new team for the state in the IPL. The Congress leaders promised a special team and this promise grabbed everyone's attention.

We have seen parties giving cricket kits to youth to woo them and some of them even said that sports will be encouraged if elected to power. But the Congress party straight away talked about the IPL team.

The promise started the debate on whether the Congress is trying the Karnataka model of showering promises on the voters thinking it will bring power or whether the grand old party wants to encash the craze cricket has.

Starting an IPL team is not a small task and it takes thousands of crores. In the previous IPL auction, CVC Capital Partners acquired the Gujarat Titans (GT) team by spending over Rs 5000 crores. After acquiring the team, players should be bought and then coaches, staff, and other facilities should be spent on. Many wonder if the Congress party thought about it or not.
