The horrifying killing of Jahnavi Kandula is one of the most infamous incident involving the Telugu community in the United States. In this context, the city of Seattle had settled this dispute by allocating a significant compensation of $29 million which converts to ₹260 crore.

And now the latest developments are suggesting that Jahnavi’s mother is doing something extremely noble and appreciable with this financial compensation.

Jaahnavi Kandula’s mother is reportedly planning a major donation from the Rs 260 crore compensation the family received after Jaahnavi’s tragic death in the United States. The settlement, worth about 29 million dollars, was paid by the city of Seattle to resolve a wrongful death case.

Jaahnavi, a 23 year old student from Andhra Pradesh, was studying at Northeastern University. She died in January 2023 after being hit by a Seattle police vehicle. The incident led to legal action by her family, and after a long battle, authorities agreed to the financial settlement.

According to reports, her mother Vijayalakshmi is not focused on the money itself. Instead, she is considering donating a significant portion of the amount in memory of her daughter.

One proposal is to contribute funds to Northeastern University as a gesture of gratitude for the support extended to Jaahnavi and the family during the difficult period.

There are also discussions about starting a memorial foundation in Jaahnavi’s name. The foundation may work towards student safety, support for Indian students studying abroad, and assistance to single parent families.

The family has described the compensation as secondary to their grief, saying no amount of money can replace their daughter.
