We have seen this with the reservation bill in the Private sector followed by cess of movie ticket prices and OTT subscriptions in the state.
As if that is not enough the government said the working hours would be increased to 14 per day which grabbed everyone’s attention. A few trade unions and bodies opposed this and said that they would oppose the move as the industry would face the heat of the decision.
At a time when everyone is talking about the move, the concerned Minister made sensational comments. He said that it was the industry that proposed the idea of increasing the working hours.
As per the media reports, Karnataka labour minister Santosh Lad reportedly said that it was the IT industries that were pressuring the government to extend the working hours. It is said that he made these comments while addressing the media.
Talking about the issue the Minister reportedly said that the proposal on increasing the working hours came from the industry and the Labour department is looking into it.
The Minister added that the heads of the industries should come forward and give their views on this. After consulting the firms and industries we would take a call on this, the Minister said.
It is no wonder in saying that the issue took an unexpected turn with the development. We have seen a few bodies coming forward to oppose this. The likes of Karnataka State IT/ITeS Employees Union (KITU), Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), and others said that they are opposing the move.
Now we have to wait and see how the industry and heads of the firms would response to the claims of the Minister that it was the IT industries which are putting pressure on the government on the working hours
