Reservation In Private Sectors:Is It Possible To Implement?

The Karnataka government created a sensation with its decision on reservations. The Congress government passed a bill that says locals should get reservations in the private sectors in both management and non-management jobs. Keeping it in simple terms the companies should hire the majority of locals for jobs.

The reason behind calling it sensation is that there are a few hurdles to this. Usually Private sector is distant from reservations and quotas and the firms hire candidates whom they think are the most suitable for the job. This is the case with any part of the world.

However, the state government wants to change the status quo and impose reservations. The industry is not happy with this. While some personalities took to social media to share their thoughts on this some of them are speaking to the media on this.

News agency ANI said that the industry is not happy with this and it is fuming over the reservation bill. On the other hand, the government is saying that it will talk to the industry and address all the doubts and concerns on this.

Ex-Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai spoke to ANI on this and asked how can the government interfere in such issues. Giving himself as an example he said that he was born here and lived all his life here and held big positions. If he does not have Kannada as a third language then he should pass a test to get a certificate. He asked who they are to decide who is local and non-local. He even quoted Constitutional rights.

He went on to list the violent incidents that happened like violent elements beating people and asked why the government won't talk about this.

Biocon Ltd executive chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw also slammed the move. She said that skilled talent is required for the tech hub but it should not affect our leading position in technology.

If we look at the history a few states tried to do what Karnataka wants to do now. However, they failed and the decision was taken back. Despite this Karnataka government wants to go ahead with this.

Observers say that with this local and non-local issues might arise. We often see South and north fights on social media by users. There is a threat of this happening on the ground too.
