A mass burial ceremony was held for 27 unidentified victims of the recent landslides in Wayanad, Kerala, as recovery efforts continue in the region. This tragic event unfolded following multiple landslides triggered by heavy rainfall, which have claimed numerous lives and left many missing. The burial took place at the Pithumala burial ground, where local authorities and community members gathered to pay their respects to the deceased. The district administration has been actively involved in the identification and recovery process, with ongoing efforts to locate additional victims.

As of now, the death toll from the disaster has risen to 385, with the recovery of 28 more bodies from the Chaliyar River on Sunday. Official records indicate that a total of 221 bodies and 166 body parts have been recovered, highlighting the scale of the tragedy. Search operations have mobilized significant resources, including over 1,500 personnel from various agencies such as the army, navy, and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), who are working tirelessly in challenging conditions to locate the missing individuals.

The search efforts are concentrated in the landslide-affected areas of Mundakkai and Chooralmala, where approximately 250 people are still unaccounted for. Authorities have implemented advanced technologies, such as drone-based detection systems, to assist in locating bodies buried under debris. The situation remains critical, with the community and rescue teams united in their efforts to bring closure to the families affected by this disaster.

In addition to the recovery operations, the district is also focusing on the rehabilitation of survivors. Schools, which had been closed due to adverse weather conditions, are set to reopen, although those serving as relief camps will remain closed for classes. The local government is committed to ensuring that the affected population receives the necessary support as they begin to recover from this devastating event.
