It is very sensitive in a place like India where various religions live. Making everyone follow the same rule is not that easy and there are a few complications.
This is the reason why the nationwide UCC and NRC are not implemented yet. However, a few states are making big steps as far as the UCC is concerned. Uttarakhand now took a big step in this regard and tabled the UCC bill in the Assembly House.
Uttarakhand will be the first state in the country to implement the UCC if the bill becomes effective. But what caught everyone's attention is that the bill mentioned Live-in-relationships in it and even mentioned certain guidelines.
A dedicated portal was made for the registrations of live-in couples. The guidelines say that only adult men and women can be in the relationship. However, they should not be married or live-in with others. They should register themselves in the portal.
After the registrations, the registrars will give the receipt. By showing the same, the couple can get a room, hotel, or PG on rent. The couples should inform their parents or guardians of their relationship.
The couples who don’t register on the portal would face a jail term of six months or a fine of Rs 25,000. Sometimes they might face both. People born for people who register their relationship will be seen as legal and they can also get a share in the properties. Even to part ways they have to register on the portal.
