Since yesterday, Amaravati has been the focal point of discussions in the Indian political circles. This continued to be the case today as well, considering the volume of discussions that are happening on the same.

In a major development, the Lok Sabha passed the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, formally recognising Amaravati as the sole and permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh, ending years of legal uncertainty.

The move amends the 2014 reorganisation law to embed Amaravati as the state’s capital with full statutory backing after years of debate and proposals for multiple capitals. The bill cleared Lok Sabha by voice vote with support from ruling allies, and will now move to the Rajya Sabha for final approval.

State leaders hailed the decision as a historic moment that restores clarity and investor confidence, and is expected to accelerate infrastructure projects and job creation tied to the capital’s development. Union minister Ram Mohan Naidu saluted the efforts and resilience of Amaravati people on the occasion.

The parliamentary session also saw controversial remarks from Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury, who challenged former YS Jagan Mohan Reddy over past references implying Amaravati could be mockingly called “Kammaravati” instead of Amaravati, reflecting ongoing political tensions around capital policy and social identity.

Her comments sparked debate on the floor, bringing attention to deeper fault lines in the state’s politics beyond the capital bill.
