The schedule was announced recently which says that the Lok Sabha elections will be held in a phased manner. The elections will start on 19 April and the results will be announced in June.
Ahead of the elections, an interesting debate is going on about the vote percentage to see what will be the voters turn around this time. In the last elections, the vote percentage was above 67 percent.
India saw the first general elections in MP segments in 1951 after gaining independence. This is the year when the MP elections were held. Back then just 45.67 percent of votes were polled. We can understand the logic behind this. The percentage of educated voters was very low and many might not have understood the importance of the elections.
Since then the vote percentage has been increasing with each term. With a steady increase, the 2019 elections saw the highest percentage with 67.40 percent. Compared to our population the percentage is very less. But this is the highest vote percentage so far.
As the elections are approaching, the vote percentage is getting attention to see if it can go past the previous highest. The political circles estimate that the percentage might be over 75 percent this time.
The Lok Sabha elections are getting the attention of the voters like never before due to various reasons. The fight is seen as the ruling BJP vs opposition parties which formed a grand alliance named INDIA.
The opposition parties are alleging that the BJP is destroying the country and India is not in a healthy democracy and BJP is trying to hinder the Democratic nature and target the opposition parties only. They are trying to take the message to the public.
On the other hand, the BJP has been saying that India has become a big economy and they would do even good work if voted to power. BJP is adamant about making a third consecutive win. All these factors created a big interest among Indians in the elections.
