Generally, we see chief minister approaching lawyers and legal experts to argue their cases in the court of law. But for a change, West Bengal chief minister, Mamata Banerjee is creating history by coming out to argue her own case in this Supreme Court.

Tomorrow, February 4, 2026, will be a historic day in India's Supreme Court. For the first time ever, a sitting Chief Minister will argue her own case in the courtroom.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, aged 71, will personally fight against the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists. She is doing this as a lawyer to expose what she calls their bad plans.

Mamata Banerjee is battling everywhere to protect India's democracy and fair elections. She is not just fighting for herself or her party it's a fight for the whole nation. A strong woman leader like her shows real courage against powerful forces.

Mamata Banerjee filed a petition under Article 32 challenging ECI's SIR process for West Bengal's electoral rolls ahead of 2026 Assembly polls. She claims it causes chaos, wrongful voter deletions, and even led to 140 deaths from hardships.

She wants the court to cancel ECI orders and use existing voter lists for elections. The hearing is before CJI Surya Kant's bench in Courtroom 1.

It must surely be an extremely interesting visual to see the chief minister are giving her own case and S Supreme Court. But the point that must be noted, here is that Mamata Banerjee herself is a lawyer by profession, and she is no stranger to arguing her cases at the court.
